The flames tore through Churrasqueira Bairrada in Mineola, sending smoke and flames billowing into the air on Saturday, Dec. 21, officials said. It took fire crews from seven towns to control the blaze at the Jericho Turnpike restaurant, which has been a Nassau County staple for nearly three decades.
Upon arrival at the restaurant, firefighters found the blaze burning in the kitchen. Crews from Mineola, Williston Park, East Williston, Garden City Park, Westbury, Carle Place, and New Hyde Park all responded to the scene.
A sign hung on the Portuguese restaurant’s front door states that “due to fire, we will be temporarily closed.”
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. Check Daily Voice for updates.
